The world celebrates Suicide Prevention week. And up above the equator, a Japanese Finance official just committed one-- by hanging. The story ran by the Japanese press pointed to an allegation of the minister's extra-marital affair. That is Japan-- The land of delicadeza; where officials commit harakiri to protect the institution rather than shield themselves with the power they had.
I am not asking for our epal-oticians to do the same. That is too much, i know, but would have wished the same.
I guess "resiliency," the much vaunted Filipino trait that help us survive disasters after disasters is the same trait common to most politicians that help them survive thier kapal-mukha style of governance. Resiliency. But many Pinoys are so busy earning a decent living they don't care much. Or dismissed the same. Apathy beleaguers this nation.
